PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a square alkali secondary battery of long life by inhibiting the rise of internal pressure in accompany with the proceeding of the charging and discharging cycle by improving a group of layered electrodes. SOLUTION: This secondary battery comprises a bottomed square container 1; a group of electrodes 2 accomodated in the container 1 and formed by alternately stacking the positive electrodes 3 and the negative electrodes 4 through the separators 5; an alkali electrolyte contained in the container 1, and a sealing member arranged on an opening part of the control 1. The outermost layer of the group of electrodes 2 is the negative electrode 4, and the negative electrode positioned as the outermost layer, has a structure where the negative electrode laysers including the negative electrode active material, are hold on both faces of a collector, and the negative electrode layer positioned inside, is thicker than that positioned outside by 1.1-1.5 times. |
