A laser diode (4) is fitted inside an optical block (1) using a drilling (3) and sends light to a separating mirror mounted on a supporting plate (10). The supporting plate may be adjusted (14,15,16) such that a beam of light travels along the axis of the drilling and at right angles to it using a cylindrical focussing lens (7). Front and rear wheel geometry may be checked by using the optical blocks singly or in pairs on wheel shoes
