PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize the quality of a chip type impedance element and to allow the element to be small in size and inexpensive by specifying the ratio of a/b where a is the average grain diameter of a conductor and b is the wire diameter of the conductor. SOLUTION: A base 11 is made of a material such as ceramic, and a conductor 12 is provided in the base 11. The base 11 is electrically connected to the conductor 12 through terminal electrodes 15 and 16. At this instance, by satisfying the condition, a÷b<=0.5, where a is the average grain diameter of the conductor 12 and b is the wire diameter of the conductor 12, the growth of grains is suppressed and variations in dc resistance are decreased. Further, the base 11 is composed of 99 wt.% or higher of silver, with an addition of at least one of Ni, Co and Cr by 0.01 to 1 wt.%. Moreover, the conductor 12 is composed of a material containing silver, and is coated with a metallic material to thicknesses ranging from 1 to 10μm.
