The unit contains a fixed jaw (1) having an outline of half of the cross section of the item being clamped and a mobile jaw (2) having an outline corresponding to the other half. The width of the jaws is slightly larger than that of the piece being clamped. The jaws fit into a stirrup (7), which in turn is held in place by a thin band (5), which transmits the clamping effort from a hydraulic or pneumatic jack. The jaws are interchangeable.
