PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform highly precise focusing in reading of an image on a photographic film even if the photographic film is very low in optical transmittance. SOLUTION: A light beam from a lamp 32 is irradiated to a photographic film 22 via turrets 36, 37, a diaphragm 39, and a light diffusion box 40, and the light through the film 22 is incident on a line CCD 116 via a lens unit 50, and the film 22 is read by the CCD 116. On the diagonal upper side of a film reading position by the CCD 116, an auxiliary light source unit 63 provided with a lamp 63A and a light guide unit 63B, which irradiates the light from the lamp 63A as a slit light with substantially uniform quantity of light over the whole part positioned in the reading position on the film 22, is arranged. If the film 22 is a reversal one and very low in optical transmittance, the lamp 63A is turned on, and focusing is carried out by the light irregularly reflected on the surface of the film 22 to be incident on the CCD 116. |
