The weapon has a barrel tube (1) able to move inside a cradle tube (2), with a cooler (12) between the two tubes in the loading zone (5). The cooler comprises at least one tube (11) wound in a spiral round the barrel tube and carrying a coolant; the tube (11) is fixed to the cradle tube so as not to hinder the forward or recoil movement of the barrel tube. A layer (16) of a thermal insulation material is located between the cooling tube and cradle.
