An indication system including both a method and device for attaching, applying or installing the system on a supporting material. The metho d of the invention includes the steps of creating at least one hole in a layer of a substrate and then applying an indicator over the hole so that it can contact substances located underneath the layer. The device of the invention includes a housing containing a supply of indicators, means for creating at least one hole in a layer of a supporting material, and means associated with the housing for applyi ng an indicator over the hole in the supporting material.
