Unit for storing and retrieving articles

The unit stores articles on shelves in containers (15), each container holding one or more articles. It has an upper surface (27) with a system (31 34) for engaging with a gripper, and a lower surface (28) with a lengthwise slot which engages with a stop on the reception point to discharge the articles from the container as the latter is drawn backwards. The front of the container can be completely open or covered by a part wall (36) to prevent the extraction of articles located above the bottom article in each container.
