A sprocket (10) is described for a roller chain (11) and sprocket drive in which the spacing between at least some adjacent teeth (16) is a multiple of the pitch of the chain rollers (12) so that at each revolution of the sprocket (10) at least some of the rollers have no driving or driven connection with the sprocket. The sprocket has fewer teeth than a conventional sprocket so that some rollers do not engage on a tooth. There are therefore fewer impacts between the rollers and the teeth of the sprocket, allowing the emitted noise to be reduced.
|
