The X-ray tube has the electron beam (10) deflected by an electromagnet (31) with a U-shaped yoke (33) carrying a winding (37) which is wound around its base (34), the electron beam passing between the yoke arms (35,36). The yoke is formed from individual sheet metal laminations with their facing surfaces lying perpendicular to the direction of the electron beam.
