Tetrahydrofurans used as starting material for polyether polyols and not causing coloration in the production of polyether polyols are obtained by purifying crude tetrahydrofurans by bringing them into contact with a mineral acid or a strongly acidic cation-exchange resin to isolate them and then distilling them by simple distillation and/or rectification.
