A construction for reducing the concentration of carbon monoxide in a hydrogen-rich gas fed as a fuel gas into a fuel cell, intended to meet the need that the selective oxidation of carbon monoxide for reducing the concentration of carbon monoxide should maintain a satisfactorily high level of activity in a broader temperature range. A selective CO oxidation section (34) for reducing the concentration of carbon monoxide in a hydrogen-rich gas fed into a fuel cell (20) is provided with a catalyst for selectively oxidizing carbon monoxide, comprising ruthenium as a main component and a second element, e.g., lithium. This construction enables the activity of selective carbon monoxide oxidation to be maintained on a satisfactorily high level in a broader temperature range in the selective CO oxidation section (34). |
