Tris-trifluoromethylsulfonyl-methane and its alkali or alkaline earth metal salts are used as catalysts. The use of compounds of formula (I) as catalysts is claimed: M+x(C(SO2CF3)3)x x = 1 or 2; M = H or alkali metal if x = 1, or alkaline earth metal if x = 2.
