Cutting tool, and method for coating cutting tools

The layer of metal, metal compound or metal alloy with hard particles is on a steel base element and promotes wettability of the hard particles. Between the layer and the steel base there is a layer of nonferrous metal, compound or alloy which contains no wettability promoting agents. The production of a coated cutting tool involves application of the non ferrous layer to the steel base element.
