A magnetic core for a saturable reactor comprises a soft magnetic iron alloy containing copper (Cu) and one or more of niobium (Nb), tungsten (W), tantalum (Ta), zirconium (Zr), hafnium (Hf), titanium (Ti) and molybdenum (Mo) and which has a structure with an area content of greater than or equal to 50% finely crystalline particles of less than or equal to 100 nm mean particle size. A magnetic core for a saturable reactor comprises a soft magnetic iron alloy and has the following control magnetic properties (measured at 25 deg C using a unipolar rectangular voltage of 50 kHz at a scanning ratio of 0.5): an operating residual magnetic flux density ( DELTA Bb) of less than or equal to 0.12 T; a total control operating residual magnetic flux density ( DELTA Br) of greater than or less than 2.0 T; and a total control amplification (Gr) of 0.10-0.20 T/A/m, in which Gr = 0.8 /* ( DELTA Br- DELTA Bb)/Hr, where Hr is the total control magnetizing force defined as the control magnetizing force corresponding to 0.8 /* ( DELTA Br- DELTA Bb) + DELTA Bb. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a switch regulator with a magnetic amplifier and the above saturable reactor; and (2) a computer with the above switch regulator.
