A current-limiting contact system with a selective action is disclosed. At least when the contact system (2) is electrodynamically opened, an additional, considerable transition resistance is created between the contact arm (6) and a connecting conductor (16) by a contact region (24) with a variable transition resistance. Any short-circuit currents are thus additionally limited. Electrodynamically obtained clamping forces which have an additional braking effect on the contact arm (6) are also provided in the region of the pivot bearing (14) of the contact arm (6).
