The suction appliance is placed over the object being lifted or transported. A control valve arrangement (8) with an openable and closeable opening (12) controls the vacuum. A pivoting or swiveling control opens and closes the opening in one or another direction. The control is pretensioned towards a movable component (40) so as to rest against a thrust part (38). A fixed thrust piece (48) defines the extent of opening in a non-operating position.
