A solid oral formulation based on ephedrine or similar compounds contains fats, gel forming agents and surfactants, which make it difficult for the active compound to be isolated and converted to illegal drugs. A solid oral formulation in which the active compound is only isolated with difficulty comprises, in addition to conventional ingredients, a mixture of pharmaceutically acceptable fats or gel forming agents and surfactants, so that when mixed with an aqueous medium, a liquid is formed which is difficult to filter and which emulsifies to give a cream when mixed with organic solvents.
