Disclosed is an expanded metal fabric (4) comprising a number of meshes formed between crossbars (22), and used as a static mixer in the discharge channel of an emission control device in an excess air-operated combustion engine. The use of the expanded metal fabric (4) permits not only the exhaust gas (A) to be correctly mixed on a short path by means of a reducer (R), but also the gas (A) to flow in the appropriate direction in the channel (2).
