<p>A multi-domain alignment liquid crystal film having excellent alignment controllability and durability, and a multi-domain liquid crystal display comprising such a liquid crystal alignment film and having a high picture quality, a high contrast, a wide viewing angle and an excellent response. A chemosorptive substance that contains a photosensitive group, silicon, and a straight carbon chain or a straight siloxane-bonded chain is chemosorbed onto the surface of a substrate having display electrodes thereby to form a single molecular thin film. The chemosorptive molecules constituting the thin film are tilted in a predetermined direction, and cross-linked at the photosensitive groups by applying a patterned polarized beam of light. The tilt of the major axis of each molecule relative to the surface of the substrate and/or the alignment direction are differed in the sections defined by dividing a pixel into sections.</p> |
