Procedure and apparatus for determining the distance to a cable fault
摘要
The method involves measuring the transition time of electrical and/or acoustic signals generated by a spark in the cable on both sides of the spark. The distances of the fault (8) from the ends of the cable are derived from the transition times. Sensors at both ends of the cable detect electrical pulses (17-19) and determine the exact time of arrival of the pulses using synchronised timing stages. The pulse transition times are derived from the time difference of the arrival of the pulses at the cable ends.
