DECOMPOSITION OF AROMATIC HALOGEN COMPOUND

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily remove alkalis and salts by supplying an alkali as an alkaline slurry consisting of a high boiling oil and/or a high boiling polymer under specific conditions to a high boiling oil contg. an arom. halogen compd. and having a low viscosity, thereby subjecting the latter high boiling oil to dehalogenation. SOLUTION: PCB as the arom. halogen compd. is dissolved at a desired conc. into liquid paraffin which is a high boiling oil having the low viscosity. Polybutadiene as a high boiling olefin compd. having an effect of accelerating a dealkalization reaction is added to this soln. and the soln. is placed under heating at 250 to 400 deg.C. The slurry consisting of potassium hydroxide prepd. under a nitrogen atmosphere and/or an atmosphere free of moisture and a fluidized paraffin and/or polybutene is continuously supplied to execute the dehalogenation treatment of the soln. The high boiling oil having the low viscosity is used as a reaction medium in such a manner, by which the PCB is easily brought into reaction with the alkali and the easy decomposition of the stable PCB at high reactivity is made possible.
