PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound, having blocking actions onα1 receptors and capable of manifesting extremely excellent migrating properties into blood and providing a prophylactic and/or a therapeutic agents for ischemic heart diseases or the like. SOLUTION: This new compound is 2-[2-[4-(methoxyphenyl)-1- piperazinyl]ethylamino]-4,6-dimethylpyrimidine derivative represented by formula I [R<1> is H, a 1-4C alkyl, phenyl, a tri(1-4C alkyl)silyl or the like] and a nontoxic salt, an acid addition salt and a hydrate thereof, e.g. 2-[2-[4-(2-methoxyphenyl)-1- piperazinyl]ethylamino]-5-(acetyloxymethylcarbonyl)-4,6-dimethylpyridine. The compound represented by formula I in which R<1> is not H can be obtained by reacting, e.g. a compound represented by formula II (R<1-1> is same as R<1> except H; X<1> is an eliminable group) with 2-[4-(methoxyphenyl)-1-piperazinyl]ethylamine.
