PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the oxidative deterioration of oil such as lubricating oil as much as possible and to external the exchange cycle of the oil. SOLUTION: A mixture consisting essentially of TiO2 powder and SiO2 powder and further contg. a metal of the platinum group is oxidation-fired and further reduction-fired, and oil such as lubricating oil is brought into contact with the resultant fired product so as to prevent the oxidation deterioration of the oil. The ratio between the TiO2 powder and SiO2 powder is preferably 1:0.5 to 1:1.3. Platinum or palladium is suitable for use as the metal of the platinum group and the metal is preferably contained by 0.3-2 wt.% of the total amt. of the TiO2 powder and SiO2 powder.
