PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for industrially advantageously producing the subject compound in high yield by which the decomposition caused by a catalyst is prevented by purifying the subject compound by adding a specific amount of carbonic acid to the liquid after passing the reactor and finishing the reaction. SOLUTION: Dimethylamine 1, carbon monoxide 2, and an alkali metal methylate 3 as a catalyst are supplied to a reactor 8 and reacted. Carbonic acid 6 in an amount of 0.01-5 mol based on 1 mol of the alkali metal methylate 3 supplied to the reactor 8 is added to and mixed with the reaction-finished liquid 5 containing the remaining alkali metal methylate 3 passed through the reactor 8 to convert the remaining alkali metal methylate 3 into an alkali metal carbonate and to regulate the concentration of the alkali metal methylate 3 in a supplying liquid 7 in the purifying process so as to be 200 ppm or less in the method for producing the dimethylformamide. As the result, the decomposition of the dimethylformamide caused by the remaining alkali metal methylate 3 in the purifying apparatus 9 is controlled. |
