PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polishing tape which can perform removal of surface unevenness from a metal shaft without damaging the surface even in the case the polishing layer has a high strength. SOLUTION: A polishing layer 5 including abrasive grains 3 and a binder 4 is provided on one surface of a base material 2, while a back layer 6 including a non-organic powder 7 and binder 8 is provided on the surface on the opposite side, whein a surface property measuring apparatus is used which has a stylus tip of diamond with the diameter being 0.01 mmϕ, and the scratching strength of the polishing layer 5 indicated by the load to cause generation of a flaw reaching the base material, when a 0-300 g continuos load is applied and the surface of the polishing layer is scratched by the stylus tip, should be over 250 g.
