PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain satisfactory joining by providing an inclined face on the butting face to be joined of two members and joining near the inclined face by friction stirring joining. SOLUTION: An inclined face 12 is provided on the entire butting face of members 10, 11 to be joined. The center of the small diameter part 21 of a rotor tool 20 is positioned in the butting part on the upper face of the members 10, 11. The tool 20 is rotated, inserted into the members 10, 11, and moved along the weld line, so that the members 10, 11 are joined. The method prevents the outflow of a plastic fluid. A V-shaped projection is provided in the tip part of one hollow member, while a recess for receiving the projection is provided in the tip part of the other hollow member, the hollow members are joined satisfactorily. A hollow material can be reduced in weight by friction stirring joining with the use of a tool 20 that is larger than the space between a rib for joining the two face plates of one hollow member and a rib for joining those of the other hollow member. Tabs are arranged at the starting and ending points of the joining and joining is performed including the tabs, an excellent joining result can be obtained at these points. |
