PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To rapidly and exactly specify the optimum operation conditions in a burner for the production of inorg. sphered particles and to efficiently melt and sphere an inorg. powdery starting material. SOLUTION: When the inorg. powder starting material is melted and sphered in a flame from an oxygeny gas combustion burner to produce inorg. sphered particles, the distance L×20 (mm) from the tip of the burner to the position at which the flow rate of combustion gas along the central axis of the flame decreases to 20 m/sec is set in the range of L×20=Lo×(Q/109)<1/3> (Lo is a constant of 100-400 and Q is 109-1,300 Mcal/hr calorific value of fuel per 1 hr).
