PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a print image having satisfactory superposability and excellent fastness by sequentially laminating a thermal transfer control layer containing a water soluble or alcohol soluble self-crosslinking type acrylic resin as a main component and a thermal transferable ink layer containing a thermoplastic binder and a coloring agent on a base material. SOLUTION: A thermal transfer control layer containing a water soluble or alcohol soluble self-crosslinking type acrylic resin as a main component and a thermal transferable ink layer containing a thermoplastic binder and a coloring agent are sequentially laminated on a base material to form the thermal transfer recording material. The water soluble or alcohol soluble acrylic resin for constituting the control layer is self-crosslinked by reaction of a carboxyl group with a hydroxyl group. As its suitable example, a copolymer of an alkyl(meth)acrylate and a self-crosslinkable vinyl monomer having a functional group is used. A compounding ingredient such as a curing agent, curing accelerator or the like may be added to the control layer in addition to the self-crosslinkable acrylic resin as needed.
