The use of semiconducting material around the strut minimizes electric field strength around the fuse element. The insulating strut (1) is intended to connect the lines of an electrical distribution network to the windings of a medium or low tension transformer (10). The strut comprises a tube (2) made of insulating material having an upper part (4) surrounded by an insulating envelope (6), and a lower part (8) intended to be lodged within the casing of the transformer (10). The tube includes a medium tension fuse (12) extending between its upper end which is connected to the electrical network and its lower end which is connected to a winding of the transformer (10). Furthermore, a conducting or semiconducting screen (32) is provided between the fuse element and the casing of the transformer (10), in order to avoid a strong concentration of electric field within the fuse.
