The device contains a channel for receiving the phial and contains an angled channel surface, against which the phial is pressed to break the tip off. The broken tip then falls into a chamber inside the device. A device (3) for opening a glass phial (1) that has a breakable tip (1a), includes an open channel (4) in at least one end for receiving the phial tip. First of all the tip is inserted into the channel and urged against an angled channel surface (5), following which further movement of the phial causes the sideways application of a breaking force to the tip of the phial at a distance from the phial neck, so that the phial tip is broken once the bottom of the phial is flush with the end of the device. The gap remaining between the angled channel surface and the phial shoulder ensures that this surface does not damage the opened phial, whilst the area of the channel around the angled surface communicates with a chamber (6) for collecting the broken off tip. An Independent claim is also included for a phial opening method using the above the device. |
