The superabsorbent member (30) is made entirely of water gelling materials and has a surrounding sleeve of water soluble materials. The member is cylindrical in rigid or semi-rigid stick or rod form with a length of 2 cm to 20 cm and a transverse dimension of 0.5 cm to 2 cm. Independent claims are also included for the following: An ostomy pouch (10) and a method for inserting the member into the pouch.
