Aerodynamic external rear view mirror for vehicles

The mirror, comprising a housing (1) with a base cover (2) which is joined to the vehicle door frame, incorporates a cover (3) for the gap between mobile components, i.e. the housing and base cover, when the mirror is in its normal operational position. The component gap cover is in the form of a supple tongue (4) forming an extension to a structural plate in the housing and extends, when the mirror is in its operating position, into the slit between the housing and base cover. In a variant of the design the gap cover is in the form of a supple tongue forming an extension to a base cover member, and it can have an additional vertical lip (4') extending either upwards or downwards.
