Needle bearing for connecting rod of internal combustion engine

A needle bearing has the needle rollers held in a cage and fitted into place without inner and outer bearing shells. The cage has stamped pockets (3a) to hold the rollers with each pocket flaked by pressed flanges which have a minimum contact with the rollers. The outer ends of the cage flanges are joined to the outer ring of the cage by a pressed radius with the ratio of the radius to the diameter of the cage between 0.2 and 0.5. Different sizes of needle bearings are fitted to the two ends of each connecting rod.
