Method of creating a protective atmosphere for transporting and storage of sensitive products such as fruit and vegetables within storage containers

A chemical reducing agent especially pressurized hydrogen is introduced into the container atmosphere, which then fully reduces any oxygen present. The hydrogen is burned within the container using an open flame producing a relative atmospheric humidity of between 90 and 100 per cent, and the atmosphere is brought to between 0 and 20 degrees C. Independent claims are also included for an arrangement for carrying out the method.
