Catalysts for polyethylene production and use thereof

A process for producing a chromium-based catalyst for the production of polyethylene with high shear response, the process comprising the steps of providing a catalyst support including silica; reacting the support with one of an aluminium-containing compound or a chromium-containing compound; and thereafter reacting the support with the other of the aluminium-containing compound or the chromium-containing compound to produce a chromium-impregnated catalyst having a silica-alumina support.
