Method and arrangement for supporting a drilling arrangement 2 in a rock drilling installation. In the method, a positioning drill 9 is driven by a gear motor 10 used for positioning the tool of the drilling arrangement, and, by means of the positioning drill 9, a separate positioning hole is drilled by the drilling arrangement 2 being guided in the drilling direction by means of its displacement cylinder 1b. In the arrangement, the gear motor 10 and the positioning drill 9 have special coupling means 10a, by means of which the gear motor 10 can be connected for operating the positioning drill 9. <IMAGE>
