PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable use for writing of a standard DVD data format by providing a permanent clock reference structure continuously formed along a servo track on a recording layer to achieve a sub bit accuracy of a writing clock. SOLUTION: An optical disc recorder 81 contains a rotary motor 84 for rotating an optical disc 80 and an optical converter 82. The optical converter 82 generates a clock reference signal as the optical disc 80 is rotated and a clock reference structure of the optical disc 80 passes near the optical converter 82. The space frequency of the clock reference structure is larger than the space frequency which is detectable by a reference DVD-ROM leader. An electronic control circuit 83 makes a writing clock synchronize a clock reference signal generated by the optical converter 82. A writing signal synchronous with the writing clock controls the timing of letting the optical converter 82 write an edge of a data mark into a recording layer of the optical disc 80.
