The invention provides a method for preparing a vaccine comprising combining both killed and modified-live forms of an infectious agent in an effective combination. When used to vaccinate an animal, the combined vaccine provides an improved immune response, both in terms of duration and extent of the response, and is particularly useful in the veterinary field. The invention further relates to a high-potency vaccine prepared by the method of the invention.
