The invention refers to an auxiliary unit for operating sheet glass drawing machines, used for their operation in case of a breakdown to the main driving unit. The auxiliary unit for operating sheet glass drawing machines is characterised by the fact that it is composed of a constant speed engine [1], the speed equalling the lowest speed used in the respective sequence of operation, a device [3] for automated coupling and uncoupling of the engine [1], a half-coupling device [15] mounted on one end of the axle [16] of the reducer [R], a pulley [17] mounted on the other end, a pulley [6] mounted on the axis [5] of the coupling device, a transducer [20] which signals the shutdown of the main engine [MP] and controls the start-up of the engine [1] by way of the control device [25], and by way of the contact [K1] it actuates the coupling device [3], a control device [23] which, upon receiving an electrical pulse [x] that occurs when the speed of the device axis entering the reducer of the actuated unit is higher than the axis speed [5] of the coupling device, stops the engine [1] by way of the device [25] and in the same time controls the actuation of the electro-valve [24] which serves to impart the pneumatic signal in order to turn off the coupling device [3] and the acoustic and optical signalling elements [26].
