Pieces of profiled, flexible mesh material are welded together to form a self-supporting segment with radial direction channels. The filter segment for a rotary disc filter comprises two or more pieces of flexible mesh material, each of which is profiled w.r.t. the segment radial direction. The profiles combine to form radial direction channels when the pieces of mesh material are welded together to form a self-supporting segment.
