A master mould is made by means of a laser beam recorder (1) that is driven by an encoder (2) so that at least one programme, comprising variations in a physical parameter, can be stored on the master. Optical registration carriers are produced from this master. Random verification positions are generated and the coordinates are encrypted into verification information. The verification information is stored in the programme and verification effects are stored at the verification positions. These verification effects subsequently form a hallmark for an authentic, legally produced optical registration carrier.
