PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a 1.3 μm band light amplifier of a low cost, high gain and high efficiency. SOLUTION: To a light amplification fiber 10, Yb ions for being excited in 0.98 μm band and emitting light in 1.02 μm band, and Pr ions for being excited in 1.02 μm band and light-amplifying the signal light of 1.3 μm band, are added. Both ends of the light amplification fiber 10 are respectively connected to optical fiber gratings 20 and 22 for selectively reflecting the 1.02 μm band through matching connection members 12 and 14, and tapered core optical fibers 16 and 18 and the optical fiber gratings 20 and 22 form the resonator of the 1.02 μm band. A wavelength division multiplex(WDM) photocoupler 24 multiplexes excitation light from an excitation laser 26 to signal light to be light amplified and supplies it to the optical fiber grating 20. The excitation laser 26 is composed of a laser device for performing laser oscillation at 0.98 μm. |
