PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent pariticulates from being accumulated at an exhaust gas lead-in hole part of an air-fuel ratio sensor cover by controlling the temperature of the exhaust gas lead-in hole part of the air-fuel ratio sensor cover to be higher by the specified value than the temperature of exhaust gas according to an engine operating condition in a heater control device for an air-fuel ratio sensor for an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: An ECU is provided with a control means for controlling the heater power of an electric heater so that the temperature near a cover provided outside of an air-fuel ratio sensor is higher by the specified value than the temperature of exhaust gas. This specified value is controlled to be changed every operating condition of an engine, and when the engine is in a transient operating state, the heater power is controlled on the basis of prediction, and the output value of the air-fuel ratio sensor is corrected according to the operating condition of the engine and the heater power.
