<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a particulate filter of low pressure loss, excellent in particulate trapping efficiency, and capable of non-flammablely burning trapped particulate at a high efficiency even though the temperature of exhaust gas is low at the engine start-up time. SOLUTION: In a particulate filter for trapping particulates in exhaust gas and burning them a mean surface roughness Rz of the base material of the filter is set to 30 to 1,000μm. Further, a plurality of trap chambers 34 and communication holes 36 communicating the trap chamber 34 with one another are formed in the base material. Further, heat insulating layers are provided on the outer surface of the base material, at least in part, e.g. in concave parts in the outer surface thereof, in the inner wall surfaces of the trap chambers or in gas outlet side parts of the base material.</p> |
