PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which makes the prescribed display part of character parts visible even when a visual field angle is widened and the display is viewed from a diagonal direction by diffusing the light transmitted only through the prescribed display part. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display device A makes display by applying the light to a liquid crystal cell 1 formed by interposing liquid crystals 4 between two sheets of glass substrates 2 and 3 provided with electrodes and allowing this light to transmit only the character parts formed by changing the initial molecular array of the liquid crystals by voltage impression. The light transmitted through the character parts 5 is diffused by diffusion plate 10 and the light leaking to the parts exclusive of the character parts 5 is shut off by printing of the black coating material 6 applied on the glass substrate 2.
