PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately specify the position of a sound source by providing a set of acoustic sensor in both vertical and horizontal directions in reference to the horizontal line on the surface of a ship body under a water surface, by measuring the arrival time difference of the sound of each set, and by using the arrival time difference for finding azimuth angle and elevation of the sound source for positions where the acoustic sensors are provided. SOLUTION: One set of acoustic sensors H1 and H2 is provided vertically to a water surface, and the other set of acoustic sensors H1' and H2' is provided at right angle to the acoustic sensors H1 and H2. Then, arrival directions (θ) and (θ') of noise are found by combining the acoustic sensors, and an intersection P of cones (h) and (h') formed by the angles is specified as a noise source. When the noise source is specified in this manner, the position of the noise source can be specified accurately since the error of the cone (h) and that of the cone (h') are in different directions even if an error is included in a time difference due to a correlation processing and the cones (h) and (h') deviate.
