PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cyclodextrin deriv. which gives a molecule recognition sensor by bonding two arom. rings to a glucose ring of cyclodextrin through a linking group. SOLUTION: This cyclodextrin deriv. is prepd. by bonding two arom. rings, pref. two arom. di-, tri- or tetracyclic rings, through a linking group A to a glucose ring of cyclodextrin represented by the formula (wherein [CD] is a cyclodextrin backbone; A is a trivalent linking group; and X is an arom. ring), pref.β- orγ-dextrin. In this deriv., the two arom. rings associate to exhibit excimer fluorescence and the strength of excimer fluorescence varies with the types of guest molecules included in the cyclodextrin backbone hence, the deriv. is esp. useful as a sensor for recognizing lithocholiy acid, an adamantoic acid deriv. or borneol.
