PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polymer having a ditactic stereoregularity in a high yield directly from a monomer or monomers by bringing a group transfer polymn. initiator, a mercury compd. cocatalyst and a silicon compd. cocatalyst into contact with methyl crotonate alone or together with anα,β-unsatd. carboxylic ester. SOLUTION: 1 mol of methyl crotonate or 1 mol of the sum of methyl crotonate and anα,β-unsatd. carboxylic ester is polymerized by the contact with 0.001-0.2 mol of a group transfer polymn. initiator represented by formula I [wherein Z is (OR<4> )3-x (R<4> )x ; R<1> to R<4> are each H or a 20C or lower org. group: and x is 0-3], 0.0001-0.02 mol of a mercury compd. cocatalyst represented by formula II (wherein R<5> is a 10C or lower org. group; L is I or ClO4 ; and y is 1 or 2) and 0.0001-0.05 mol of a silicon compd. cocatalyst represented by formula III (wherein R<6> to R<8> are each a 20C or lower org. group; s is 1-3; and p, q and r are each 0-3 provided p-+q+r+s is 4).
