PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new (meth)acrylic acid-based ester containing a saccharide residue and a phosphorylcholine-similar group, useful as a monomer for imparting biocompatibility and capable of giving polymers useful as biocompatible materials such as medical treatment materials and the like. SOLUTION: A new (meth)acrylic acid-based ester of formula I R<1> is H, methyl; R<2> , R<5> are each an oligooxyalkylene of the formula: (BO)k-1 B [B is a 2-12C alkylene; (k) is an average oxyalkylene group addition molar number of 1-100]; R<3> , R<4> are a 1-18C hydrocarbon; (m) is an integer of 1-6; Glula is the reactive group of a gluconolactone of formula II}. The new ester of formula I is useful as a monomer for imparting biocompatibility, and the polymers produced from the ester monomer of formula I are useful as a biocompatible medical treatment material and the like. The ester of the formula is obtained by reacting a hydroxyl group-containing (meth)acrylic ester of formula III with a cyclic organic phosphorus compound of formula IV and subsequently reacting the reaction product with aγ-lactone of formula V or the like.
